Heather FrahnHeather is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. She is a versatile musician, composing and performing her own repertoire of solo songs and collaborating with theatre and dance makers on the creation of new performance work. She is a skilled and heartfelt vocalist. Heather is also interested in recording sounds, shaping them into soundscapes for performances and workshops. The basis of Heather’s practice is highly crafted improvisation, allowing her to collaborate effectively from moment to moment. Since 2005 when Restless Dance Theatre began Growth Spurt, a creative movement program designed for very young children (2-4 years old) with an intellectual disability, and their families, Heather has been a regular musician with Restless’ community based programs. Last year Heather collaborated on another Restless program, Leaps and Bounds for children aged 5 – 8 on the autism spectrum. Recently, Heather was employed by Company @ Autistic Theatre, a disability cultural community theatre group operating through Autism SA. Heather has composed the scores for new works by a number of performing arts companies, involving community-based and professional performers. These include Restless (Precious, Headlong, Proximal and Starry Eyed), Patch (Respectable Shoes and Who Sank the Boat) and Riverland Youth Theatre/Vitalstatistix (Random Girls, a community-based production for Come Out 2005, involving young mothers.) During last year’s Fringe, Heather performed with Leigh Warren and Dancers at the Flinders Medical Centre, and for the 2009 Fringe she composed music for the opening parade. |
