Jianna Georgiou

Jianna joined the Restless Youth Ensemble in 2006 and has since performed in Rebel Rebel, Debut, and the award winning The Heart of Another is a Dark Forest (winner of Best Performance Melbourne Fringe Festival 2008), collaborated with Sophie Hyde (Closer Productions) and Kat Worth on Sixteen for Necessary Games which won the Best Work at the Reeldance Australia and New Zealand Awards and numerous awards at International Film Festivals. She performed in Bedroom Dancing, (which won the Outstanding Achievement in Youth or Community Dance at the Australian Dance Awards 2010), and the integenerational work Next of Kin directed by Philip Channells.

In 2009 Jianna was one of the four emerging directors for Restless’ Debut 2 project, collaborating with Katrina Lazaroff and dancers from the Youth Ensemble and the Adelaide College of the Arts to direct her first work, Dancing Dragons. In 2010 Jianna joined the Touring Company’s all-female cast for Beauty, which premiered at the Adelaide Festival Centre. She joined the Restless Education Team for the Brothers, Sisters project at Christies Beach High School led by Sally Chance and was shortlisted for a Young Achievers Award 2010.

In 2011 she performed in Take Me There directed by Dan Koerner for the Come Out Festival, worked on Restless Central as a co-tutor and led the warm-up sessions for Adriano Coretese’s The Lure and Blur of The Real Ranters Theatre Residency. As part of the Restless Junction Artist Exchange Program, Jianna participated in a 4-week professional placement at ADT and Restless with Independent Artist, Tobiah Booth-Remmers collaborating on I Am Me with Carol Wellman Kelly (JUMP Mentor). Jianna directed her second work Superhero Island with mentor Tim Rodgers casting dancers from the Youth Ensemble, Restless Central and Adelaide College of the Arts for the Debut 3 program.

Jianna has won numerous medals and trophies when competing at the Special Olympics in both gymnastics and swimming. She loves being in front of the camera and performing for live theatre. Jianna hopes to have a long career in the arts.
