Dan DawDan Daw joined Restless Dance Theatre in 2002 and has performed with the company in works by Ingrid Voorendt, Kat Worth, Daisy Brown, Michael Whaites, Garry Stewart and Billie Cook. He completed a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Drama Performance) at the Flinders University Drama Centre in 2004 and in the same year trained with Alito Alessi in Oregon USA to develop his skills as an integrated dance tutor, obtaining the DanceAbility Teacher Certificate. In early 2006 Dan performed with UK company FRONTLINEdance on their 5th Anniversary Tour, and later that year, in conjunction with Art of Difference 2006 he directed The Birds his first creative development with Weave Movement Theatre and Restless Dance Theatre, mentored by Ingrid Voorendt. Dan performed with Scottish Dance Theatre as guest dancer in Adam Benjamin’s Angels of Incidence as part of the companies Spring Tour 2007 and worked with Kate Champion’s Force Majeure performing in The Age I’m In for the 2008 Sydney and Adelaide Festivals. Whilst continuing to perform, Dan also tutored for No Strings Attached, Theatre of Disability, FRONTLINEdance, Scottish Dance Theatre and Restless Dance Theatre. Dan has received a number of awards including, the Outlet Dance Award, The Russell Page Fellowship in Contemporary Dance and was the South Australian Young Achiever in the Arts, 2006 and Young Australian of the year finalist in 2009. Dan’s first solo piece choreographed by Liv Lorent, Crush first performed in Newcastle, UK was named Best New Dance Performance at the Adelaide Festival 2009. In January 2010 Dan joined the UK based contemporary dance company Candoco, and is currently touring in their latest production Renditions. |
