Larissa McGowan

Born in Brisbane, Larissa began training at the Queensland Dance School of Excellence, and graduated from the VCA winning the award for ‘Most Outstanding Talent’.

Larissa joined Australian Dance Theatre in 2000 and toured extensively nationally and internationally with the company for 11yrs.

In 2008, Larissa was named as the ADT Associate Choreographer. Following winning the 2003 Green Room Award for Best Female Dancer, Larissa won multiple awards in 2004, at the Helpmann Awards and the Australian Dance Awards. Her work, Zero-sum, made its world premiere at WOMADelaide 2009. She was a guest choreographer on 2 seasons of So You Think You Can Dance. Her work Slack was part of Sydney Opera House’s New Breed season, which Link Dance Company toured internationally. She created Transducer as part of Tasdance’s ‘Voltage’ season, with Co:3 performing it at the companies launch season 2015. Fanatic was choreographed on Sydney Dance Company for Spring Dance and De Novo.

Movement direction includes Slingsby Theatre Company’s Wolf, State Theatre Company of SA’s Romeo & Juliet and Mneumonic, Brink Theatre Company’s Harbinger, Mass presented by Adelaide Festival(2012) & State Opera of South Australia.

She was Assistant Choreographer on the film The Boy Castaways (2013 Adelaide Film Festival).

Her work Skeleton premiered in 2013 at the Adelaide Festival, Dance Massive & Dublin Dance Festival. She Co-Choreographed Habitus with Garry Stewart for ADT in 2016 & independently created Mortal Condition which also premiered the same year.

From 2014 to 2017 she was Adelaide Fringe Festival Parade choreographer and curator of DanceXtend for Country Arts SA in 2015 and 16.
