2007 Rebel Rebel

Rebel Rebel took its title from the David Bowie song, and was inspired by a documentary about punk, and the anarchic spirit of rebellion that stormed the streets of England in the late 70s.

In a sense Rebel Rebel was a rebellion by Ingrid Voorendt against the previous shows she had directed for Restless. She extended both herself and the company into new territory.

A scene from Rebel Rebel

‘The sense that these twelve performers are the originators, the initiators, the creative generators of their movement is impressive. Voorendt meets the challenge of directing young people in the performing arts: how to chart an ensemble trajectory of aesthetic education that fosters authenticity of artistic expression. In the choreography of Rebel Rebel, I saw dancers becoming artists for the future.’
