1995 Talking Down

Talking Down was the company’s first explicit exploration of the concept of cultures of disability, inspired by the thoughts of dancer Melanie Creaser. At the time Melanie was exploring ideas about having a culture of Down Syndrome through her language and her personal expression using dance. Talking Down built a gestural language among each of the dancers, weaving this into a series of images expressing the energy and the imagination of the company members.

Talking Down premiered at the Lion Theatre as part of 1st Site, the 1995 Come Out Festival’s festival within the festival for emerging artists. The show then toured to schools in Naracoorte, Strathalbyn and Port Augusta and was remounted for the 1996 Adelaide Fringe Youth and Education Program.
