from the artistic director
The Australia Council has recently announced the Four Year funding results. Our thoughts are with all our colleagues and their brilliant companies who have been denied support despite the excellent standard of their work.

Restless was fortunately, one of the successful companies and we will receive $300,000 per year for 2017 – 2020. This is a great result for the company in a very competitive environment. However, our delight is tempered by the terrible outcomes for so many other companies. These are dark times indeed for the arts in Australia.

Our Give Me Five campaign has just wrapped up. Thank you to everyone who donated to Give Me Five  and who helped us to reach our target of $35,000. In fact, people were so generous that we exceeded the target and raised over $38,000! The money will now be matched and we will receive $35,000 from Creative Partnerships Australia’s Plus1 Fund. So we will move closer to being able to proceed with the project: Debut – the dancers direct later this year.

Restless was also successful in an application to the Catalyst program of the Ministry for the Arts in Canberra. We received $13,000 to fund a Creative Development for the Youth Ensemble to work with Caroline Bowditch. Caroline is a brilliant maker of dance theatre who works in Australia and Scotland. The development is for a work called Elegance (working title) which will be performed in 2018.

And don’t forget, our major production for 2016 is In The Balance with The Audreys singing live, presented as part of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival on June 22 and 23.

ADT’s Ignition

Return of the Ignition Program

The Restless Dance Theatre program: Debut – the dancers direct was originally modeled on ADT’s Ignition. After a 5-year hiatus Australian Dance Theatre is pleased to present the return of Ignition. An exciting showcase of short, sharp dance works created by aspiring South Australian choreographers and performed by the dancers of ADT, Ignition gives audiences the chance to see the evolution of future choreographic talents.

The program includes works by current ADT dancers, Thomas Fonua and Matte Roffe, two Adelaide-based independent choreographers; Erin Fowler and Katrina Lazaroff, as well as a 30-minute commissioned work by former ADT dancer and independent choreographer, Lina Limosani. Lina is developing the next stage of her short work One’s Wicked Ways.

Join ADT in celebrating the next generation of Australian choreographers, performed by dancers from one of the country’s most iconic dance companies.
