from the artistic director
Hello

First of all, a warm thank you, to the generous Restless supporters who contributed to our EOFY appeal. I am always blown away by people’s generosity. It is deeply moving when people recognise the extraordinary work of the Restless dancers and support their work like this. Thank you.

We have some new members of staff at Restless who I would like to introduce.

Julie Moralee started as Development and Marketing Manager at the beginning of July. Julie has had a distinguished career in marketing with the Adelaide Fringe and Adelaide Festival Centre. She will be brilliant in the role.

Mikki Reichstein started as Administration Coordinator in May. This is a new role that has been created at the company. Mikki will be handling all Workshop bookings and the hiring of our venues (and much else besides!) As the friendly first face of contact here at Restless, she brings her warm and welcoming personality and her attention to detail to the role.

Theresa Williams joined Restless as Finance Officer last year.  She has been keeping the finances shipshape, streamlined and succinct in our company.

We are delighted to welcome Mikki, Julie and Theresa to the team at Restless and we look forward to working with them.

Thank you.
Michelle Ryan Artistic Director

Our new Development and Marketing Manager

For the last three years Julie was Head of Marketing, Brand and Business Development at Adelaide Fringe. Before that she spent 13 years as Senior Marketing Executive at the Adelaide Festival Centre where she was responsible for the collaborative leadership of the Marketing Team to deliver a full year program of Music, Theatre, Dance and Exhibitions. She executed more than 250 individual marketing campaigns for independent arts companies alongside large scale productions. Julie has recently established her own marketing company: Jumo Studio which she will operate alongside the 2 days a week that she will devote to Restless.
Julie will be managing our relationships with donors, sponsors and foundations as well as the Restless marketing strategy. We are delighted to have someone with Julie’s experience and capacity in this important role.

Our new Administration Coordinator

Mikki comes to Restless from a technical theatre background. After training in technical theatre at the Adelaide College for the arts she has worked primarily in production management, the creation of scenic art, venue design and set building for a wide range of Adelaide based companies and organisations. These include:  Adelaide Film Festival, Womadelaide and the Moon Lantern Parade. In 2018 she helped to organise the first Adelaide Dance Festival for Australian Dance Theatre and she also has experience in art and disability with Access2Arts and No Strings Attached Theatre of Disability.
Mikki’s role of Administration Coordinator at Restless is a new full time role that was created following a staffing review at the end of 2018. She will be managing the hiring of the Restless spaces as well as taking bookings for our workshop programs. She is also looking after the running of the entire venue at 195 Gilles Street.
We very much value her diverse range of skills and her friendliness and openness.

Theresa Williams

Theresa Williams

Theresa is an accountant with CPA Status, trained at University of South Australia. In her professional career she has acquired considerable understandings of how small arts organisations operate. She previously performed a similar role at Patch Theatre Co. and she currently does a similar role for Brink Productions. Theresa is also a Board Member at Writers SA. Theresa brings a clear and concise appreciation of financial management to her role and is is a great asset for Restless.

Specialist Workshops at Restless

Restless has a very positive relationship with the DreamBig Festival who have been able to offer Restless a number of visiting artists associated with the festival, the opportunity to come and conduct workshops at Restless while they are in Adelaide.

Joshua Monten

Joshua was in Adelaide at this year’s DreamBig with his company’s production of Game Theory. This was described as:  A 20 minute dance performance in which order and precision give way to chaos, havoc and a whole lot of mess. Joshua came to Restles and  conducted a workshop at Restless with our Impulse participants.on Thursday 23rd May. Both Joshua and the participants enjoyed the experience immensely.
In 2012 Joshua founded his own dance company, for which he created the works About Strange Lands and People, Delirio Amoroso, Kill Your Darlings and Doggy Style. These productions have been performed more than a hundred times throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia in the last three years, including the Singapore Fringe Festival, the Queer New York International Arts Festival, the Universidade de Campinas in Brazil, the University of Chicago, Kaserne Basel, Fête de la Musique in Geneva, Schauspielhaus Wien and the Tanzoffensive Festival in Leipzig.
It is fabulous that the Restless dancers can experience working with Australian and international artists of Joshua’s experience and capacity.

Future Workshops
The connection with DreamBig and Adelaide Festival Centre will also bring more extraordinary experiences to Restless in the near future when a couple of Australia’s leading contemporary dance companies conduct workshops. Watch this space!
