from the artistic director
We are thrilled that the presentation of Intimate Space on the Gold Coast as part of the Bleach* Festival and Festival 2018 has been nominated as Best Dance Work in the 2018 Helpmann Awards.
It is wonderful that the high standard of work of the Restless dancers is being recognised nationally like this. We always strive for world class quality work and we want to tour that work nationally and internationally. The Restless dancers have been making brilliant work for some time and the recent acknowledgements of its quality have reinforced for us that the strategies for developing the company are headed in the right direction.

Thank you.

Meryl Tankard returns to Restless for Zizanie
Meryl Tankard will be working with the cast of Zizanie for four weeks in July. We are delighted to be once more hosting Meryl as she and the Zizanie cast continue the development of this thrilling and distinctive new work. Meryl and the cast will be working with a magnificent team of creative artists to make Zizanie. Regis Lansac will be contributing his extraordinary photographs and videos to the look of the work. Award winning set and costume designer Jonathon Oxlade will bring his unique vision to the project. Lighting designer Chris Petridis will add his exceptional skills to the mix. With all these ingredients, we are anticipating a delightful and exhilarating outcome!
Zizanie will premiere in early 2019.

Antony Hamilton

Antony Hamilton

Guest Choreographer
Antony Hamilton is an internationally acclaimed Australian choreographer who is based in Melbourne. Antony will be coming to Restless to work with the Restless dancers over three days in August. This visit will be the start of an extended association between Antony and Restless. As with Zizanie, Restless is now developing new works over extended periods. We are predicting an awesome outcome to our work with Antony in 2021. Thank you to the members of the Restless Dance Theatre Donor Circle for their support of this special project – it is a significant professional development opportunity for our artists.

Sneak Peek for Donors!
Restless established a Donor Circle in 2016 as a friendly way for people who would like to support the company to assist in the making of our unique works and provide significant professional development opportunities for our artists. The Donor Circle contributes significantly to a specific special project each year and members are offered opportunities to meet with the artists they support and sneak previews of the work in progress.
The next Donor Circle project is the residency with Antony Hamilton and members will be invited to meet and greet Antony and the dancers and to see a snippet of what they have been working on.
If you and/or a friend are interested in joining the Restless Donor Circle please do contact Belinda Hellyer on or 8212 8495.

James and Diana Ramsay Foundation

Support From the Foundation
Three Restless staff members and our Chair Nick Linke recently attended the James and Diana Ramsay Foundation 10th Anniversary dinner at Ukaria near Mount Barker in the beautiful Adelaide Hills. It was marvellous to hear about the artistic and medical causes that the Foundation supports.
The Foundation will be supporting Restless over the next two years to expand its capacity by providing funding for some much needed items: extra staff time, a Rehearsal Director and travel support for Michelle.
Restless is extremely grateful to the Foundation for providing this support which will assist Michelle to realise her vision of successfully touring the work of Restless nationally and internationally.

James Darling & Lesley Forwood Exhibition

Living Rocks Exhibition. Photography: Hugo Mitchell Gallery

Don’t Miss This Extraordinary Work!
James Darling and Lesley Forwood have been generous supporters of the Zizanie project with Meryl Tankard since the start of the project. Not only are James and Lesley innovative farmers and generous patrons of the arts, they are also talented visual artists in their own right.
Their latest exhibition is called: Living Rocks: A Fragment of the Universe. This provides a complete panorama view on the coastline of South Australia from three billion years ago, through to present day. Unchanged throughout this moving image and projected work are the humble thrombolite sculptures created by James and Lesley from mallee trees felled on their property in the state’s south east over 20 years ago.
Exhibition Details: 14 June – 14 July
Hugo Michell Gallery, 260 Portrush Rd, Beulah Park SA 5067
