Restless Dance Theatre at DanceX 2025
The secret’s out — Restless Dance Theatre is joining DanceX 2025, a bold festival of dance curated by The Australian Ballet. This October 8-11, some of the most exciting voices in dance from across Australia and New Zealand will come together at Arts Centre Melbourne for two unforgettable weeks of performance (we are performing as part of Week 1).

Our performance: Seeing Through Darkness
Restless Dance Theatre will present Seeing Through Darkness, choreographed by Artistic Director Michelle Ryan. Inspired by the art of expressionist painter Georges Rouault, the work explores beauty found in difference and imperfection. With striking design and powerful performances, Seeing Through Darkness challenges perceptions of both art and disability, inviting audiences into a world where vulnerability and strength move together.
Why DanceX matters
First launched in 2022, DanceX was created to connect leading companies and showcase the depth of contemporary and classical dance in our region. Its return in 2025 promises another extraordinary festival celebrating creativity, collaboration and cultural exchange.
For Restless, it is a significant moment: performing Seeing Through Darkness at Arts Centre Melbourne alongside internationally acclaimed companies represents not only recognition of our work, but also of the power of disability-led dance theatre on one of Australia’s biggest stages.
