Dalmas Otieno is a contemporary dance artist and proud amputee. In 2024 Dalmas was part of The Mill Breakout with a work called je vous aime aussi about the intimate relationship between persons living with disability, and able-bodied people. While Dalmas has a residency with Dance Hub SA Dalmas came and trained with our company dancers and has since become part of our inResidence program.
In je vous aime aussi he demystifies the myth that people living with disabilities are incapable physically, which Dalmas says is a prominent misunderstanding. “That is also stretched in their social life, and most people think it’s hard or not possible for a person with a disability to find genuine, intimate love just like any other person,” he says. “In this piece, the myth is demystified and a love story between four people with and without disability is beautifully told”.
Restless Dance Theatre proudly provided studio space for Dalmas to rehearse for MASS MOVEMENT, an ambitious large-scale performance choreographed by Stephanie Lake. Set to be performed during the opening weekend of Adelaide Festival 2025, MASS MOVEMENT will feature 1,000 dancers coming together in a breathtaking display of synchronised movement at Elder Park’s natural amphitheatre.
This extraordinary one-time event showcases dancers of all ages and backgrounds, marking an unprecedented moment in Adelaide Festival history.
“Thank you Restless Dance Theatre for granting me access to your facilities and allowing me to utilise your exceptional studio for rehearsals. Very much appreciated.” – Dalmas Option
