Sarah-Jayne Howard

Sarah-Jayne Howard has had an illustrious dance career spanning over 20 years in Australian Dance. She has worked with the country’s leading chorographers and companies and inspired a generation of dancers with her unique physicality.

She has choreographed at taught for universities and schools across Australia.

Since graduating from the New Zealand School of Dance she has created and performed roles with choreographers and companies in both Australia and New Zealand, touring extensively throughout Europe, Asia, Canada and the US, including Meryl Tankard’s Australian Dance Theatre, Gideon Obarzanek (Chunky Move), Garry Stewart (Australian Dance Theatre), Kate Champion (Force Majeure),  Stephany Lake, Gavin Webber (dancenorth), Douglas Wright, Michael Parmenter, Sean Curham, Raewyn Hill and Splinter group.

Sarah Jayne was a member of splinter group (Gavin Webber, Grayson Millwood and Michelle Ryan) who created the dance theatre work roadkill, which toured internationally and nationally receiving 4 greenroom awards including one for best dancer for Sarah Jayne.

She is the recipient of the New Zealand’s arts laureate, N.Z’s finest arts award.

Sarah-Jayne was the Associate Artistic Director of Australian Dance Theatre from 2018-2021 under the mentorship and guidance of Garry Stewart.

At ADT she assisted in the creation of many new works, trained and guided the ADT dancers and was the responsible for the ADT Youth ensemble and learning program.

Her Journey with Garry Stewarts Australian Dance theatre Began with Garry’s company THWACK! She was one of Garry’s original dancers creating Birdbrain, Plastic space and house dance.
