We were fortunate enough to have the team from AllPlay Dance visit our studios on Friday and meet and work with our ReMix team.

A little bit about AllPlay Dance:
Our work is grounded in research into the developmental benefits of dance for children with disability, drawing on the fields of dance, neuroscience, and clinical psychology. Guided by this evidence, we develop and refine our teaching methods and take a community-research-driven approach across both our studio and broader programs, ensuring we continually improve and remain responsive to community needs. We also create resources for families, teachers, and dance buddies, and connect with the community through our professional development courses and online presence.

AllPlay Dance wanted to work with us because, as Australia’s leading dance company for inclusive dance, exemplifies the practice and impact that AllPlay Dance aspires to. Their collaboration with Restless is driven by a dual aim: to learn from our exceptional team, and to contribute their research expertise to support the measurement and reporting of the significant impact of our work.

This shared focus on inclusion and access strongly aligns with the work of our ReMix team.

The ReMix team are working on an initiative led by and for Autistic and neurodivergent artists. Proudly supported by the Office for Autism, the ReMix team are co-designing and delivering inclusive dance workshops for schools, creating sensory-friendly public performances, and implementing long-term access improvements in studios.

“Our day working with the ReMix team was exhilarating! Through rich discussions and shared studio practice, we began building relationships with the individuals involved while also taking initial steps toward documenting the ReMix program, with the goal of writing about and reporting on its outcomes. We feel incredibly privileged to be collaborating with Restless and are excited to see this project unfold.”
