On Saturday 4 July, Restless Dance Theatre’s classes will come together for our annual Mid-Year Showing, celebrating the creativity and hard work of the past semester through an incredible day of contemporary dance performances.

The annual Mid-Year Showing celebrates the creativity of Restless Dance Theatre’s inclusive dance classes, featuring original contemporary dance works created by participants across our Links, Central, Junction and Emerging Artists programs.

Throughout the first half of 2026, participants in our Links, Central and Junction classes have been developing original works inspired by Guttered, Restless Dance Theatre’s latest festival performance (Joondalup Festival, March 2026). Beginning with the same creative source material, each class has taken its own unique path, resulting in performances that reflect the personalities, ideas and artistic voices of the participants and tutors.

Drawing on themes from Guttered, dancers have explored what it means to take risks, build new friendships and face challenges. Through movement, they have investigated ideas around competition, the pressure to succeed and the experience of being watched or judged.

Across the semester, participants have experimented with playful movement tasks including creating secret handshakes to explore trust and connection, celebrating moments of victory through gesture and movement, and transforming everyday objects in unexpected ways.

Alongside these class performances, our Emerging Artists will premiere The Spaces Between, a new contemporary dance work created over the past six weeks with Restless Company dancer and tutor Bonnie Williams.

Blending movement, storytelling and multimedia, The Spaces Between explores themes of growth, independence, human connection, childhood memories and the journey of stepping into our own. Drawing on the performers’ personal memories and lived experiences, the work reflects on the people, places and relationships that leave lasting echoes within us. Through contemporary dance and multimedia imagery, the performers explore what it means to grow, drift, return and carry pieces of our past into the future.

As Bonnie shares:

“We are shaped by our memories, moments and milestones. However, it is often the spaces in between—the quiet transitions, the small shifts and the unseen moments—that shape who we become.”

The Mid-Year Showing is an opportunity for family, friends and supporters to witness these creative journeys firsthand. More than a performance, the Mid-Year Showing celebrates the imagination, courage and dedication our dancers bring to the studio each week, and the unique voices that make the Restless community so special.

We look forward to welcoming you to Restless Studios as we celebrate another incredible semester of creativity and share the inspiring work our participants have created together.
